“Community Safety” conference held

Prishtina, 12th February - Forum for Civic Initiatives and Saferworld organized in Prishtina the conference “Community Safety”. The aim of this conference was to offer possibilities of exchanging experiences between actors engaged in improving community safety, and identify possibilities of including these experiences in policymaking.

On the first part of the conference representatives of three communities, where FIQ and Saferworld have worked through the Plan for Safer Communities (Gërmova, Raushiq, and Gjilan), presented their experiences and achievements; on the second part participated representatives of other communities as well who were part of the programme “Safe Place”, and among 50 other participants were also representatives of Department for Community Issues of Kosovo Police, representatives of the Legal Office and Gender Equality from the Office of the Prime Minister, international organizations such as UNDP, OSCE, CARITAS Luxembourg, ICITAP, representatives of KFOR, EULEX, civil society, representatives of communities and students. Din Mulliqi, from Raushiq, Rrahim Sylejmani from Gërmova and Irfan Veseli, from Gjilan focused on their experiences and achievements and the stability of their projects, the aim of which was to improve safety in their communities.

The conference offered a forum for institutions and civil society of Kosovo in order to discuss a number of issues which need treatment regarding community safety and relation to the development of security sector and human safety in Kosovo.
