Community workshop on "Developments in the Energy Sector in Kosovo"

20.12.2012, Prishtina, Forum for Civic Initiatives, FIQ, as part of the Kosovo Civil Society Consortium for Sustainable Development (KOSID), held a seminar with representatives of communities from different municipalities of Kosovo, on energy projects. Initially, Mr. Kushtrim Puka, Program Manager at FIQ, presented the work of KOSID, where the participants were introduced to our position, no new coal capacity; closure of Kosovo A until 2017 as requested by the EU; clear and concrete programs to reduce technical and commercial losses; programs for efficiency in thermal insulation of buildings for residence but also commercial / public buildings; development and relief programs for the exploration of alternative energy (water, sun, wind, biomass, geothermal, etc.); construction of electricity networks and transmitters in the region that removes the monopoly of Kosovo but also the monopoly of electricity supply from Serbia.

With a satisfactory representation in the level of discussion, whether territorial representation, the seminar highlighted the problems faced by the citizens of Kosovo, starting from the basic problems such as the lack of electricity, damaged networks, extremely high bills up to larger problems that consist of damages caused by the power plants.
